Sir Thomas Cave, d 1666, a staunch supporter of Charles I. He helped defend the Manor House and church against Parliamentarians at the time of the battle of Naseby.

This kind of embroidery is well known in paintings and portraits of the late 16th and early 17th century. The most famous in England is the bodice worn in the portrait of Margaret Layton (museum no. E.214-1994), attributed to Marcus Gheeraerts the Younger (1561-1636)
