The cut-glass carafe of cylindrical form on a circular base, with tapering neck, the body decorated with the coat of arms of the Emperor's Countryside Residence, 'Alexandria', a gold sabre on a blue shield set within a wreath of white roses with the motto For Faith, Tsar and Fatherland, the cylindrical tumbler similarly decorated

The little vodka tumbler and the miniature carafe for oil or vinegar are from the Emperor's Own Service from the Countryside Residence, 'Alexandria' in Peterhof and are decorated with the coat of arms of 'Alexandria'.

Nicholas I built the Countryside Residence in 1827-29 in the medieval style. The palace was intended as the Summer Residence for his wife, the Empress Alexandra Fedorovna (1798-1860). The famous Russian poet Zhukovskii designed the coat of arms for the palace, illustrating the Tsar's enthusiasm for the Gothic style.
