A MING QIANJIN AND TIANQI LACQUER BOWL
JIAJING INCISED AND GILT SIX-CHARACTER MARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1522-1566)

With deep rounded sides rising to an everted lip, highlighted in shades of brown, green, red and yellow lacquer with outlines etched in gold against a black ground, the exterior finely incised with four ogival panels enclosing the characters Fu, 'Happiness', above a spray of chrysanthemum, Shou, 'Longevity', above camellia, Kang, 'Health', above lotus, and Ning, 'Peace', above rose, divided by a floral scroll supporting various auspicious objects, below a zigzag pattern band at the mouth rim, and above a band of stylised ruyi, the foot-ring with gilt cloud scrolls, the interior and the base lacquered red, the base incised at the centre with the reign mark
