William Powell Frith's painting was an overwhelming success with the Academy crowds of 1858 who came to witness the social panorama of the Derby Day. It was sent to Paris to be engraved by Blanchard and then on a world tour to America, Vienna and the Antipodes. The original painting is in the Collection of Tate Britain, London.
