Arabic manuscript on paper, 312ff. plus 5 fly-leaves, each folio with 14ll. of black naskh on gold scrolls, each line with double gold and black rules, gold and polychrome rosette verse markers, red nasta'liq interlinear translation, within gold and blue ruled frames, sura headings in gold naskh on blue illuminated ground, marginal medallions, catchwords, first six folios richly illuminated, with marginal comments signed 'Abd al-Wahhab bin Muhammad Shafi' and dated 1285, last folio lacking, areas of slight staining and warping, in probably original but restored lacquer binding with gul-o bulbul design

The scribe of the marginal notes of this Qur'an, 'Abd al-Wahhab, was the youngest son of the celebrated Shirazi calligrapher Muhammad Shafi', pen-named Visal (1782-1845). Visal was one of the most famous masters of nasta'liq in 19th century Iran. He also transcribed pious works in the style of naskh canonized by Ahmad Nayrizi (Sheila S. Blair, Islamic Calligraphy, Edinburgh, 2008, p. 426).

'Abd al-Wahhab was also a poet with the pen-name Yazdani and was known for his nasta'liq. He died in AH 1328/1910 AD.
