William Atkinson's hand-drawn designs dated 1811 for 'Part of table top' are held in the Scone Palace Family Archive. Atkinson inscribes on one design an instruction to a cabinet-maker 'Finish the tables to this drawing without the ornament in the angles - Nov 4th 1811'.
The present table includes the quatrefoil but lacks the additional gothic motifs that Atkinson was instructing the cabinet-maker to remove. It is possible that the instruction was directed at George Bullock who used ebony line-inlay in a similar fashion to that seen on this table and on lots 475 and 477.
