The model of this clock is allegorical for harvest, personified by the figure of Ceres, the godess of agriculture who is associated with corn. As the personification of earth's abundance she wears a crown of ears of corn and has a corn sheaf in her left hand (originally also with a sickle which is now lacking). The plinth of this clock is also decorated with agricultural implements.
A similar model is illustrated in P. Kjellberg, La Pendule Française, Paris 1997, p. 419, ill. H.
