A VERY FINE WHITE JADE 'SEATED SCHOLAR' PENDANT
QING DYNASTY, 18TH/19TH CENTURY

Of rectangular form, carved in shallow relief to one side with a scholar seated beneath a tree, beside his attendant standing behind a wheelchair, the reverse with confronting dragons to the top above an inscription, the stone of an even white tone

The inscription originates from a poem of the Tang dynasty 'Walking in the Mountain' composed by Du Mu and can be translated as 'Stop the vehicle to admire the maple forest at night, the frosted maple leaves are redder than the flowers of February'.
