This table, with its sporting figure hunting a bird, is designed in the Louis XV picturesque style popularised by Thomas Johnson of Soho (d. 1778) and revived in the mid-19th Century. It relates to a pattern illustrated by G.W. Yapp in Art Industry Furniture etc., 1879 (E.T. Joy, Pictorial Dictionary of British 19th Century Furniture Design, Woodbridge, 1977, p. 556).
