During the 18th Century, the Abbey on Innisfallen Island was a favourite destination for tourists visiting Killarney. By 1763, Lord Kenmare had converted the Abbey into a banqueting house to entertain guests visiting the island. In the foreground two tourists stride towards the sea. They contrast with the native figures, wearing traditional Kerry cloaks to the right of the composition.
