This elegant brass-decorated mahogany dressing table is related to the late output of the Roentgen manufactory of Neuwied and was probably made in one of the court cabinet-maker's workshops at Karlsruhe. In common with the works of David Roentgen the legs of the table are detachable and the complex interior in light cherry is fitted with various secret drawers, again reminiscent of the various Verwandlungstische from Neuwied that served as model for pieces made in Karlsruhe (see R. Stratmann-Döhler, exhibition catalogue, Mechanische Wunder - Edles Holz: Roentgenmöbel des 18. Jahrhunderts in Baden-Würtemberg, Karlsruhe, 1998, pp. 110 and 136 and R. Stratmann-Döhler & W. Wiese, Möbel für den Fürstenhof, Karlsruhe, 1994).
The inventory brand to the reverse of this table suggest a possible provenance with the house of Baden and related pieces of furniture were sold from the collections of the Grand-Dukes of Baden-Baden, Sotheby's house sale, 6 October 1995, lots 1049-1051.
