This table, with its distinctive ormolu mounts combined with marquetry and on square tapering legs, forms part of a group related to a commode in the Lady Lever Art Gallery and discussed by Lucy Wood (op. cit., pp. 174-175). A pair of commodes formerly at Elvaston Castle, which was remodelled for the 3rd Earl of Harrington circa 1815, but not included in the Sotheby's 1963 sale of furniture, also form part of this unorthodox group. A pair of matching pier tables of identical form is in a private collection in North Wales.
