The design inlaid in ebony on the toprail is documented in the Wilkinson tracings (p.253). A related chair, the property of Napoleon Bonaparte during his period of exile on the island of St Helena, with a brass plaque declaring it be 'the last Napoleon sat on,' was sold by Calvin Bullock, Christie's, London, 8 May 1985, lot 103.
