LATE SHANG/EARLY WESTERN ZHOU DYNASTY, CIRCA 1100 BC
The flattened figure with head turned to one side carved with flat muzzle, flattened circular eyes either side of a median ridge, and a pair of horns, the legs tucked along the sides of the body and the back surmounted by three, shallow rectangular block-like segments, the one closest to the head with a concave center, the one at the rear carved on the back edge with a small pointed tail, the underside flat, the finely mottled black and white stone with traces of cinnabar and earth adhesions
