The Madonna and Child enthroned, a landscape beyond

Two prototypes are recorded by M.J. Friedländer, Early Netherlandish Painting, Vol.IXa, p.61, N^o54 & 54a, plate 68. The first, 50 x 37 cm, with a different background, was with R. Kann, Paris. The second, a studio replica, 52.5 x 42 cm, is recorded in the Pálffy Collection, Budapest. The present lot, though differing in minor respects, is probably based on the latter
