The penitent Magdalen

The original, signed and dated 1661, 103.2 x 83 cm, is in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam since 1948, on loan from the Mauritshuis, The Hague. It was purchased by King Willem I from Countess Bourke, Paris in 1823 (see P.J.J. van Thiel, All the paintings of the Rijksmuseum, 1976, N^oC1347, p.166, with ill.).
