In the late 19th century, Lord Tichborne, the ninth richest nobleman in England, disappeared presumed drowned off the coast of South America. Some years later, a rumour circulated that Lord Tichbourne had survived and was living in Australia. When the claimant returned to England to claim his inheritancee, he almost succeeded in convincing family and friends that he was the rightful heir to the family fortune.
