A ROMAN MARBLE MALE TORSO
CIRCA 1ST - 2ND CENTURY A.D.
The youthful slender figure originally standing with his weight on his right leg, the left slightly pulled back, the left arm lowered and held close to the body, the right arm projecting outward
The style of this torso is traditionally associated with the work of the Greek sculptor Polykleitos, and closely relates to the so-called Dresden Youth. See, for example the marble torso in Bern, no. 118 in Beck, Bol and Bückling, Polyklet, Der Bildhauer der griecheschen Klassik
