'OISEAUX DE MARBRE', A PAIR OF ARMCHAIRS, SMALL MODEL, 1974
In pink Portuguese marble, the structure in black painted steel

These 'Oiseaux de Marbre' were conceived in the summer of 1974, in Athens, at the request of Alexandre Iolas and made in the Manolis Karentinos workshop. The large model was first exhibited at the Centre National d'Art et de Culture (CNAC) in June 1975. The initial edition of twelve examples of each of the five models was not completed. Only the small and large model were executed. The original versions are with Alexandre Iolas. A second set of five armchairs _ three large and two small _ was made for Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé. The third set is with Claude Lalanne. No further pieces were made

Ces Oiseaux de Marbre seront imaginés durant l'été 1974 à Athènes à la demande d'Alexandre Iolas, dans l'atelier de Manolis Karentinos. Le grand modèle est exposé pour la première fois au Centre National d'Art et de Culture (CNAC) en juin 1975. L'édition initiale en douze exemplaires des cinq modèles prévus ne sera pas menée à terme. Seuls le petit et le grand modèle sont réalisés. Les modèles originaux sont conservés chez Alexandre Iolas. Un deuxième ensemble de cinq fauteuils, composé de trois grands et deux petits exemplaires, est réalisé pour Yves Saint Laurent et Pierre Bergé. Le troisième ensemble est conservé chez Claude Lalanne. L'édition est aujourd'hui arrêtée
