GUANGXU PERIOD (1875-1908)

Of tapering rectangular shape supported on four bracket feet, each finely decorated in grisaille with a continuous scene of blossoming prunus trees, detailed with a pair of birds perched on the tree branch, and another bird in flight, all below a blue enamelled keyfret band on the broad mouth rim, inscribed in iron-red below the rim the characters, Dayazhai, beside the Tian Di Yi Jia Chun sealmark, the base pierced with a circular hole for drainage

Two jardinières of this form but in varying sizes: the one of 7.9 cm. high and the other of 15.7 cm., both of this exact pattern are in Beijing Palace Museum collection, illustrated in Guanyang Yuci, The Forbidden City Publishing House, 2007, p. 169. The original sketch of the design is illustrated, op. cit., p. 168, no. 32 (fig. 1).
