The dressing-table with arched cheval mirror with a printed paper label 'EASY CHAIR & SOFA FACTORY HOWARD & SONS UPHOLSTERERS 25, 26, & 27 Berners Street LONDON PATENT DINING TABLES' inscribed '1597 3223' and stamped 'HOWARD & SONS BERNERS ST', the locks stamped 'HOMES LONDON';
the side cabinet with moulded cornice above a pair of cupboard doors stamped 'HOWARD & SONS BERNERS ST' enclosing four linen shelves, flanked by five graduated drawers to each side, the top right drawer with the same paper label printed 'EASY CHAIR & SOFA FACTORY HOWARD & SONS UPHOLSTERERS 25, 26, & 27 Berners Street LONDON PATENT DINING TABLES' inscribed '1596 3222', the locks stamped 'HOBBS & CO LONDON', with chalk inscription to the reverse;
the bedside cupboard with door enclosing one shelf with holes cut into the back boards

Messrs. Howard & Sons were one of the most successful English cabinet-making firms in the Victorian period. Their premises were based firstly in Lemon Street circa 1820, then at Little Alice Street by 1835. They upgraded again, moving to sought-after premises at 22 & 36 Berners Street in the fashionable West End quarter by 1854, where the firm remained for the duration of the century. Howard and Sons exhibited at the 1851 Great Exhibition and notable commissions included contributing to the furnishing of Sudbury, Derbyshire and Elton Hall, Huntingdonshire.
