With its characteristic fine and dense decoration of chariots drawn by Apollo's griffins to all surfaces, these candlesticks are representative of the finest work executed in Moscow, and are closely related to a pair of candlesticks by Yakov Samarin of the 1830s, which are now in the State History Museum, Moscow (A. Gaydamak, Russian Empire, Moscow, 2000, p. 89). Further related examples from Moscow are illustrated in I. Sychev, The Russian Chandeliers, St. Petersburg, 2003, 189-190.
