This buffet relates closely to another example by Marsh & Jones offered for sale at Christie's, South Kensington, 23 January 2002, lot 341. Marsh & Jones took over the business of John Kendell in Leeds in 1863. They employed the services of some of the leading designers of the period including Bruce Talbert and Charles Bevan, and by 1867 the business had expanded to include showrooms at Cavendish Square, London.
