These Grecian-scrolled chairs, evoking poetry's triumph with laurel-wreathed frames and bacchic lion-heads, relate to chairs commissioned in the early 19th century for Rosersberg Palace by Prince Carl, later Carl XIV of Sweden (d.1818) and probably supplied by Ephraim Stahl (d. circa 1820).
