The inscription reads: Sahib Sufiye Khanum, sana 1202 (1785-6 AD)

Similar tombak covered bowls are in the Topkapi palace. A shallower version carries the date of 1818 (Topkapi à Versailles, exhibition catalogue, Paris, 1999, no.105, p.153). The present bowl is unusually well made and retains its original gilding almost untouched.
