A MID-18TH CENTURY RUSSIAN PARCEL-GILT SILVER TANKARD,
MARK OF V.M.O. (Cyrillic), (unidentified), ASSAY MASTER IVAN SHAGIN, MOSCOW, CIRCA 1750,
Of slightly tapering cylindrical form, on three ball feet, scroll handle, cover engraved with a circular panel depicting a young lady with crescent hair ornament, playing a lute whilst a young man peers over her shoulder, encircled by foliate scrollwork incorporating four portrait medallions depicting Russian monarchs, with an outer band of scrolling foliage, the sides engraved with three panels within intricate scrolling foliage, one depicting a couple, the others a seated lady playing a lute & a bearded gentleman in wide-brimmed hat & boots respectively, the base inscribed with an inventory number (?) & Cyrillic initials, "A Sh, No.63", 5½ in. high (14 cm.), 12.5 oz.
