The parlour chairs, designed in the George II antique fashion, have arch centred crest-rails displaying Roman acanthus sprays, vase splats antique-fretted with gothic cusped flutes, and truss-scrolled columnar legs terminating in jupiter eagle claws issuing from acanthus leaves.
The basic back pattern, with more elaborate enrichments, featured on chairs from Kippax Park, Yorkshire, sold Christie's, 6 March 1947, lot 73. Related splats featured on chairs in the possession of C. Angell Esq. of Bath in the 1920's, and which appear to belong to the set of four Irish George II chairs sold Christies, New York, 17 October 2003, lot 202.
