For a similar wood example dated to the 18th century but with slightly less pronounced lobes and traces of lacquer or paint, see Chinese Ivories from the Shang to the Qing, The British Museum, London, 1984, p. 167, no. 215, where the wood is not specified. Vases of this form were also produced in ivory during the 18th century. Two ivory examples are illustrated ibid., pp. 165-7, no. 210, a vase of slightly more square form, and no. 214, a vase with a pronounced, flared lip from the Sir Victor Sassoon Chinese Ivories Trust.

Two similar examples in huanghuali and boxwood from the Falk Collection were sold in these rooms, 20 September 2001, lot 529.
