A FRENCH MINIATURE ARMOUR FOR MAN AND HORSE IN LATE 16TH CENTURY STYLE
ATTRIBUTED TO E. GRANGER, PARIS, MID-19TH CENTURY
Accurately modelled and articulated throughout comprising close helmet with pivoted 'bellows' visor, bevor, breast-plate fitted with rear-skirt and pendant tassets, back-plate, full arm defences including gauntlets, full legharness with rowel-spurs and broad-toed sabatons, decorated throughout with etched and gilt bands of scrollwork and mounted on a leather-covered wooden manequin, together with a sword; the armour for horse comprising full head and body defences decorated with etched bands of scrollwork and incorporating an heraldic device on the peytral, together with an armoured saddle fitted with stirrups: mounted on a composition horse with horsehair tail, and on a painted faux marble base.
