Of hemispherical form, the slightly domed cover with pomegranate, leaf and bud finial, the handles pierced and leaf moulded, painted with oval cartouches of vases and baskets of flowers on stone ledges, linked by scrolling garlands of flowers and foliage, within elaborate gilt daiper pattern and scroll borders.
The stand -- 9 5/8 in. (24 cm.) wide. (3)

This form was introduced at the factory as early as 1751 and remained popular throughout the 18th century. The bowl was for serving broth or soup, the stand as a bread plate. Crowned interlaced L marks as on the present example were reserved for hard paste wares made between 1770-1793.

Étienne-Jean Gremont fils is recorded as a flower-painter at Sèvres from 1769-1781, and Jean Chauvaux, le jeune, is recorded as a gilder and painter of patterns, 1764-1800.
