Après une formation à la Royal Academy de Londres au début des années 1880, Eric Forbes-Robertson vient parfaire son éducation à Paris à l'Académie Julian où il se lie d'amitié avec son compatriote, Robert Polhill Bevan. Il lui faudra néanmoins attendre 1890 pour se rendre à Pont-Aven. La construction, reposant sur des lignes sinueuses délimitant les corps des baigneuses et du paysage qui les entoure, découle du cloisonnisme et témoigne de l'influence de l'esthétique de Pont-Aven.

Eric Forbes-Robertson attended the Royal Academy in London in the early 1880s before coming to Paris, where he enrolled at the Academy Julian. It was here that he met his compatriot, Robert Polhill Bevan. However it was not until 1890 that he would go to Pont-Aven. The present work is constructed of sinuous lines that define the bather's silhouettes and their surrounding landscape, in keeping with the painter's cloissonnist style.
