comprising: The Most Honourable Order of the Bath (G.C.B. - 1830), Military Division, Knight Grand Cross, breast star, by Rundell, Bridge & Rundell, in silver, with gold and enamel appliqué centre; The Most Honourable Order of the Bath (K.C.B. - 1815), Military Division, Knight Commander's neck badge, in gold and enamel, hallmarked for 1814-15, and breast star, by Gilbert, in silver, with gold and enamel appliqu/ae centre, the star lacking second scroll reading DIEN; Sweden, Order of the Sword, neck badge, in gold and enamel; together with the recipient's mantle of the Order of the Bath, with usual large-sized 'tinsel' breast star, tassle and cords; and his epaulettes as an Admiral of the Fleet. Admiral of the Fleet Sir Thomas Byam Martin, G.C.B. (1773-1854) was one of that remarkably talented group of officers whose presence in the Royal Navy during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars ensured not only Britain's outright victory but also paved the way for the long 'Pax Britannica' of the nineteenth century.
