HARRISON'S CAMPAIGN SONGSTER. The preface explains that "...In these times of feeling and patriotic action, the merry Harrisonian Log Cabin Songs have rushed through the counry. Every body is singing them, and every body but the sour and crabbed Locofocos is delighted with their simplicity and spirit....We trust that every free-hearted son of the West will furnish himself with a copy..." Selection (verses only) include "Tippecanoe Song," "Log Cabin and Hard Cider Candidate," "An Invitation to the Log Cabin Boys to Old Tippecanoe's Raisin'," "New National Whig Song," "Van Buren's Lament" and "Clearing the Kitchen and White House-A Song for 4th March 1841." Multiple editions of this enormously popular collection were published in major cities for the highly politicized 1840 campaign, the first to use mass rallies, slogans ("Tippencanoe and Tyler Too"), emblems (the log cabin, hard cider) and political songsters. Rare.
