The robust neo-classicism of these impressive commodes, together with their distinctive aprons of gilt scrolling garlands, possibly point to a Danish origin. Smaller commodes with similar gilt swag-hung aprons, from Altona, a region near Hamburg formerly part of Denmark, are illustrated in A. I. Kratz, Altonaer Möbel, Hamburg, 1988, pp. 250-1.
