Hieronymus Pradus entered the Society of Jesus in 1572 where he taught literature and then filled the chair of scripture at Cordoba for 16 years, during which time he worked on his remarkable In Exechielem explanationes. He died before completing it and the work was taken over by Juan Batista Villalpando, who added the last two volumes. Always valued for its detailed study of Jewish coins, weights and measures, the work is also admired for the care with which the Temple and City of Jerusalem are reconstructed from the limited evidence available, although inevitably a certain amount of conjecture - even fantasy - is involved.
