The beautiful golden landscape vignettes and richly chased escutcheons of this East India Company cabinet reflect the seventeenth century taste for furnishing bedrooms apartment in a more fanciful manner than the ebony black cabinets associated with the Louis IV court. Such cabinets were generally displayed on table-frames, which were often replaced by 19th century stump feet for their redisplay in fashionable parlours and drawing rooms.
