A FINE SOUTH GERMAN POWDER-FLASK IN THE MANNER OF SCHWÄBISCH-GMÜND AND WÜRZBURG
Late 17th Century
With circular wooden body formed with a central tubular hole, carved in high relief with four hounds entwined in combat with a stag, an antler and other details carved in the round, the carving continued in low relief over the greater part of the inner-face and enclosing a turned moulded wooden roundel, fitted with engraved iron top, iron baluster nozzle with spring-lever cap with pierced thumbpiece, a pair of iron loops for suspension, and the body retaining traces of its original painted naturalistic colour.
