Circa 1590
With wooden body of strongly arched plano-convex section drilled for five cartridges, the outer-face venereed in vertical strips of staghorn variously engraved with designs of strapwork, acanthus and cabling, with contrasting ebony strips heightened with horn lines and rosettes, rivetted blued iron mounts (now slightly rubbed and partly lightly oxidised), including spring-actuated hinged lid secured by a button catch, the base formed with a pronounced outward flange, and three loops for suspension.
