This sniper rifle is used by James Bond at the start of the film in Bratislava; he uses it to protect General Kosov [Jeroen Krabbé], against a sniper, Kara Milovy [Maryam d'Abo]. Just before he fires, he recognises her as the cellist from the orchestra and deliberately shoots to maim rather than kill.

The Walther WA2000 was developed in the early 1970s as a specialised police sniper rifle and was in production until November, 1988. At that time the retail price of a basic version was around $9,000. Although a highly accurate and effective weapon, the prohibitive cost precluded it from being manufactured on a large scale, and approximately only 176 were ever made.
