The desk is designed in the George II manner. Its 'gothic' panel leg pattern corresponds to that on a mahogany hall-seat illustrated in A. Coleridge, Chippendale Furniture, New York, 1968, pl. 125.

Decorated overall with Chinoiserie scenes, the rounded rectangular top with two hinged flaps above two frieze drawers, one with a removable writing-surface, the reverse with a hinged flap enclosing pigeon-holes and four small drawers, on cabriole legs headed by Gothic arches, on paw feet headed by acanthus
