She formed a charming collection of paintings, mainly featuring works by Armfield, the strength and array of which testify to a life-long friendship with the artist. She also collected exquisite examples of pictures by Eliot Hodgkin (1905-1987, see lots 136, 137 and 139). The Late Mrs Grant's husband's personal correspondence with Maxwell Armfield is littered with references to his pictures, including lot 133: "Yes of course you must have Roquebrune on the 'never-never' [which scarcely applies to you thank goodness!]. It's such an honour when any one likes anything enough to want to live with it ... I do hope you will continue to find interesting by-paths through the City among the Rocks which is so happily sited." A 1959 letter from the artist refers to the purchase of lot 129, Prometheus: "as far as I can remember, I said it had only been exhibited once, when it was priced at 100gns & that I would let you have it minus the usual third [which A. tells me comes to £66 odd & you can work out exactly if you wish better than I can, who is incapable of any mathematics]. Anyway there will be no quarrel over odd pence. Now do get the pictures insured: or you will come back one fine day from Greece or somewhere, & find a bleak space & no redress."
