The wall fountain or so called Gangfontein is often seen in 18th century Dutch houses, it was considered an important part of the furnishing of the hall. Wall fountains are always executed in marble and are seen in various shapes, the basin mostly carved in the form of a scallop and the backplate is decorated with the repeating theme of a water-spring or running water.
