We are grateful to Marijke de Kinkelder at the Rikjsbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie for suggesting that the landscape, executed in the 1630s, is by Cornelis Vroom. She notes that the figures, by Nicolaes Berchem, were added some years later.
