The present painting comes from the same predella as two panels illustrating scenes from the life of Saint Augustine in the Stdelsches Kunstinstitut, Frankfurt. Those works depicting Saint Ambrose Baptizing Saint Augustine and Saint Augustine's Dispute with the Heretic Fortunatus are described by Filippo Todini as being by an artist in the 'sequace arcaiza Perugia. Affine al gonfalone del 1494 in San Domenico a Perugia'.
