The submarine depicted is not the H.M.S. P48 but could possibly be the C18, which was built in 1908 and broken up in 1921. Please ignore the catalogue note.

H.M.S. P48 was in service throughout the Great War, and also saw action in the Second World War. She sailed from Malta on 23rd December 1942; two days later, she was attacked and sunk with depth charges by the Italian torpedo boat Audace, north west of Zembra Island in the Gulf of Tunis.
