Please note that this painting should be dated circa 1905 and not circa 1907-08 as stated in the catalogue. Please also not that the sitter for this painting is not Mrs Barrett as stated in the catalogue note. The present work will be included in Dr. Wendy Baron's forthcoming monograph to be published by Yale in the autumn of 2006, Sickert: Paintings & Drawings, listed under catalogue number 250.

The likely sitter of Le Collier de Perles is Mrs Barrett, wearing imitation beads, who was painted by Sickert on a number of occasions and is said to have been his charlady. Pickvance assumed it to be a Venetian work of circa 1904.
