This lady's work-table with removable book tray relates to the Gillows design for a 'Sheveret' table of 1790. See L. Boynton (ed.), Gillow Furniture Designs 1760-1800, Royston, 1995, fig. 150 and p. 170.
A mahogany cheveret with boxwood and ebony lines was sold from The Doris Duke Collection, Christies, New York, 3-5 June, 2004, lot 889.
