Exhibiting a cylinder lid topped by two drawers, a case fitted with two short over one long drawer and tapering reeded legs, this desk is a fine example of sophisticated Federal furniture produced in Massachusetts in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The use of flame birch provides a striking visual contrast with the mahogany and is often seen in Federal furniture from Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire.
