JOHN NYREN
The Young Cricketer's Tutor, edited by Charles Cowden Clarke

London: Effingham Wilson, 1833. 12mo., engraved frontispiece of Lord's gound, 18 advertisement leaves at end (frontispiece slightly wormed at margin), original green cloth with paper label.

FIRST EDITION. Born at Hambledon on 15 December 1764, Nyren died at Bromley, Kent, 28 June 1837. He shared a love of music with Charles Cowden Clarke, the friend of Keats. No less importantly, Clarke must have loved cricket, having the inspiration to transfer to paper not just the reminiscences but the playing knowledge from long ago which Nyren possessed. Allen 26; Padwick 390.
