The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon to Antony Charles Robert Armstrong-Jones, Earl of Snowdon on 6 May 1960, by Sir Charles Wheeler, K.C.V.O., O.B.E., President, on behalf of The President and Members, The Royal Academy of Arts, Burlington House. W.1.

The present sketch brings to mind Sir Anthony Van Dyke's 1633 portrait of Charles I with M. de St Antoine in the Royal Collection. However the present drawing depicts two women and a dog to the left of the figure on horseback instead of the standing figure of M. de St Antoine (see Van Dyke: A Complete Catalogue of the Paintings, Yale, 2004, pp.462-4).
